Using the MA3 Absolute Shaft Encoder to Determine Wind Direction (Student White Paper)
WRITTEN BY KEVIN L. AND JUSTIN D. AT THE CONFEDERATION COLLEGE - THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO CANADA
An abstract paper describing the utilization of US Digital's MA3 miniature absolute encoder, within a remote weather station, to test wind speed and direction on a wind vane. The MA3 was selected due to its small size, the analog output of 0 to 5 Volts, and the availability of a ball-bearing option to provide little to no resistance on the shaft. This paper discusses their project and the outcome of using the MA3 as a position sensor.
